hi, i’m kinkminos to my blogospheric freunde, i’m referred to as jaahil jutt by those who know me a little better, and don’t even ask what my nearest and dearest call me.
this site is a repository for a random selection of my versificationings. i call this stuff poetry in notion, cos that sounds kind of cool, in a disingenuously self-effacing sort of way.
hope you enjoy dropping by. please feel free to

kinks would have made it safely out of there if the seventeen elephants he'd stuffed inside his attach-ee case hadn't gone all jazzy in a miles kind of way and started trumpeting last night's impressive achievements on a contrapuntal voyage of self-discovery

Thank you for your comment on my piece. I am still trying to digest the Black Swan book myself so perhaps the peice was a bit premature. However, the gist of it was that history is driven by the entirely improbable and that one such event has occurred in Pakistan over the past one year. I am not too sure where that insight leads, but I think it cuts both ways. Those who think that Pakistan has progressed into a new era of democracy need to be less sure. Those who think nothing has changed and that normal service will resume shortly need to be less arrogant. I will try and say more of that next week but for now am still trying to formulate the consequences of that analysis.
Cheers,
FHN
PS: is that sketch by Steadman of the great gonzo doctor? If so, my compliments on your good taste

tis indeed by mad’s maddest-artist-who-never-worked-for-mad-mag.
i think i’ve seen a version of this sketch with the legend “vintage doctor gonzo” in steadman’s spidery lettering.
there’s another couple of them up at my udder blog — one from the (in)famous “somewhere near barstow on the edge of the desert” cover of F&LiLV.

Hello,
Sorry for the late reply. The people who run my site fashionably forward me the comments my pieces get rather late. However, I found your response to my article, “Where’s My Coffee?” insightful.
Anyway, most of the readers wanting to comment or discuss issues facing Pakistan with me either write to Dawn or directly to me. Fire me an e-mail whenever at nadeemfparacha@gmail.com.

Kink,
Correct me if I’m pronouncing your name right ;)
Thank you for the high praise. I’m a great fan of Gore Vidal. Though the piece was not in his style, its lack of “schmaltziness” was inspired by him.
Meanwhile, I see the Great NFP has graced your page. My, your reputation precedes you.
Best,
Rafay Alam

rafay, your pronunciation is spot on. kudos vaghaira.
i remember reading vidal in my younger days, half a lifetime ago, being introduced to him by my good buddy, one asghar haider jafri (sadly out of touch with in sunny toronto or thereabouts). if memory serves, i read burr, 1876, myra breckenbridge and julian (and maybe one or two more). perhaps kalki, though i’m not sure — i remember asghar recommending it strongly to me. can’t remember the details of any of the books, but recall that i enjoyed his books and his writing.
if i were to cite any writers whom i realise have influenced my writing style, they would have to be my favourite hitchhiker (hazrat douglas adams alaihi salam, r.i.p.) and the late great doctor gonzo, aka uncle duke aka h.s.t. (who i’m certain is resting in pieces). there are surely others, but their influence must be on a more subliminal level.
if i had known that ol’ paracha would lend such gravitas to my reputation i would have sought him out on my last trip to my birthplace of scratchy and had a picture taken with him to put up on my blogs.
drat. missed the boat again.
btw, give my best to your shaban chacha.

oh, and manto, whom i’m revisiting… this time with a (relative) vengeance. (as an influence, these days anyway). i’m hoping my urdu will improve a smidgen or two in the bargain.
